My love for interior design

When it comes to interior design, your creativity cannot fail you…

For many years I always associated being ‘creative’ as being able to draw amazing sketches or beautiful stickmen. When it came to art classes at school I would just paint because my drawing was so awful. Yes, still to this day my drawing is so awful but yet my handwriting is pretty neat? Hmm, odd one. Anyway, back to the point I was getting at… Creativity.

You don’t have to be the world’s best artist and you don’t even have to be the world best designer. Creativity can be expressed in so many ways, that’s the beauty of it.

I have a huge creative love for interior design. That’s my creative flare I suppose. When I was younger I would constantly be moving my room around because I used to get so bored of the layout, it used to drive my mum insane. There was this little 6 year old lifting up a bed and working out the best ways to utilise the space in my bedroom. Thinking out loud, I think that’s where my secret love for playing The Sims so much came from, re-designing houses and if you didn’t like it.. you just just pick up the sofa and the fridge and wack it in the bin. A lot harder now to just up and throw your fridge and sofa in the bin!

So.. as you may have read from my social media I’ve recently moved to Melbourne, Australia. We’ve moved into a lovely apartment but I could not wait to get started and start creating some beautiful spaces (in the limited space that we have)!

I’ve attached a before and after photo of our spare room. I’ve listed where a lot of the items are from in the links below so you can check out the brands. Please let me know what you think of what I’ve done in the comments below or on social media! 🙂

Interior Design After

Rug – Kmart (It feels so fluffy it’s amazing. It also was a perfect colour as I wanted light furniture but wanted to break up the colour so it wasn’t as contrasting compared to our such dark carpet.)

Bedding – Kmart (White queen size duvet set folded across to give a thicker look on a single bed, also perfect for when the bed pushed out into a queen.)

Bed – Day Bed from IKEA (When I purchased it could you get white or a grey… we went with white.)

Table, adorable plants and candles – Kmart

Throw – Kmart (There’s something super cosey about knitted throws. This one in particular is so soft. It also matches our carpet which I thought by adding onto the side brings some of the dark colours into it without it becoming too blocky and white. Also the fact if im cold, I have a lovely throw!)

Pillows – H & M (My boyfriend and I had so many discussions on these pillows, when it comes to interiors, we have such different taste, that can sometimes be awkward if you live together too. I tried to mix patterns with plain colours. A lot of the time on homeware inspo, I see either all patterned and all one coloured pillows and I am not a fan. Try and put them next to eachother in the shop and do not be afraid to spend too long deciding on what works best. It may drive your boyfriend nuts… but pillows are important.

As always, I’ve loved sharing my interior design ideas with you, a really great place to get inspiration is Pinterest. If you have a specific IKEA item, type it in.. there are some amazing ideas on there!

Please do not forget to write me a message on social media or in the comments, would love to hear your thoughts on this post. 🙂
